More About Decorbond Panels...
Storage and Handling
- Store panels on flat, solid, level bolsters.
- Do not slide panels over other panels.
- Lift and carry panels vertically to avoid excessive flexing.
- Check all work surfaces and remove all abrasive points to avoid scratching.
- Storage, machining, and fabrication must be maintained at a relative humidity between
35% and 80%. This is imperative during long periods of sub-zero temperatures where rapid
dehydration may cause severe stress and checking.
Cleaning and Care
- If Decorbond surfaces become soiled in use, water-soluble materials are easily removed
with a soft cloth dampened by a mild solution of household detergent. Grease, lipstick,
shoe polish and other water-insoluble substances can be wiped away with mild organic solvents
such as rubbing alcohol, paint thinner, etc.
- Minor scorch marks, such as those caused by cigarettes, may be removed by gentle rubbing
with a non-abrasive cleanser on a damp cloth.
- Decorbond's supertex (suede) finish requires no waxing or polishing.
Machining
- All saws, dados, and routers should be firmly anchored to minimize machine vibration.
- Bearings should be snug to allow saw arbors to run perfectly true.
- Collars must be clean and balanced so that the rim of the saw blade runs true.
- A minimum arbor speed of 3300 rpm under load is recommended for circular saws. Routers and
shapers should be run at 360 to 7200 rpm, but at a constant feed rate to keep the cutter head
from overheating.
- Feed speed will vary somewhat with the diameter and number of teeth of the saw blade. A
tooth load in the range of .003" to .005" is recommended.
- Only carbide-tipped tools, properly sharpened, will give a clean, chip-free edge.
- Where applicable, triple-chip sawtooth configurations used with a scoring blade are
recommended for high quality work. For saws not so equipped, a type 25 carbide-tipped,
hollow-ground circular saw blade is recommended.
- To maintain the proper blade angle in relation to the top panel surface, a stack height of
no more than three inches is advisable.
